New Wargame / RPG / Boardgame?

 Guards of Traitors Toll

Soon as I saw this game released (by Grey for Now Games) my thoughts went to Ankh Morpork. This wasn’t a unique connection to make (see the great setup by Mad Lord Snapcase - link) and was mainly inspired by the Discworld tabletop role playing game I had played in just a few months before.

The basic concept of the game is that each player has a small squad of guards or watchmen who are tasked with solving crimes or situations in a vaguely medieval fictional / fantasy city. The game is a miniatures “skirmish” in style but not totally combat focussed. The starter set comes with four missions and there are more available with the "Busy Streets" expansion.

It looked like a great way to get some use out of the various fantasy and medieval civilian figures that I have had sitting around. So I eventually got around to ordering a bundle including the starter set and the Busy Streets expansion. This would give me all I needed to play with up to four players. (The three other players were not included in the bundle!)

The two boxes that arrived contained a nice compact rulebook, two decks of card, 17 dice, three sheets of thick card counters and sprues of miniatures. Lots of sprues of miniatures! The plastic figures have been produced in collaboration with Wargames Atlantic and they are rather good. The starter box has 4 sprues of villagers/townsfolk and 2 of Guards.  This gives you up to 12 Guards and 24 civilians  and the Busy Streets expansion has another 12 each of Guards and townsfolk. This gives me 60 figures in total if I get them all glued together and painted but the real strength of the set is the huge number of options included on the sprues.

For example; the Townsfolk sprue has 6 figures (3 male 3 female) with a choice of 30 heads! There are also 28 arms with a bunch of tools and items as well as open hand to hold the additional 20 separate items. This gives an insane number of variants on the figures that you can come up with.

Plan is, to make up and paint the minimum number of figures to give the game a fair go. So probably around two dozen more figures needed...
